What Is Worley?

Worley is an Australian engineering company based in New Sydney, Australia. It operates globally, providing contractors, consulting services, and engineering and design to the mining, energy, and chemical sectors. It has over 51,000 employees working to achieve carbon net-zero.

Worley employs people from a vast array of professional backgrounds. There are engineers, project managers, skilled tradespeople, consultants, and others who have found positions with Worley. For those just entering the workforce, there are graduate programs available, along with internships, bursaries, and internships.

 

What Is Worley’s Hiring Process?

As with all positions, it starts with the application. All open positions are listed on the Worley website. You can search by location, or by job category. Once you’ve found an open position you are interested in, make sure you meet at least the minimum qualifications, fill out the application, and submit your CV.

If you seem like you might be right for the job you will be contacted by a member of the recruiting team. They will let you know the steps you will need to complete as part of the recruiting process. Some positions require aptitude tests, others have several pre-recorded interviews, and for some there will be an assessment day.

The number of interviews you are given and the way they are given depends on the job you are in the running for. For example, graduate applicants must submit a pre-recorded virtual interview, and may also have peer to peer interviews, in addition to interviews with management.

 

Worley’s Psychometric Tests

Pre-hire exams are frequently given as part of an assessment day. The tests are the first thing you will do. If you do not score adequately you will not be asked to stay for an interview.

Cognitive Aptitude Test

One of the most common pre-hire exams is a Cognitive Aptitude Test. This assessment looks at three areas that are important to general success. These areas are:

 

  • Verbal Reasoning QuestionsThese questions focus on how well you understand written language, and your ability to draw accurate conclusions from limited information.
  • Numerical Reasoning QuestionsHere, you will demonstrate how well you are able to work with numbers and datasets given to you in graphs. You will also need to demonstrate some basic mathematical ability.
  • Abstract/Quantitative Reasoning Questions This portion of a cognitive aptitude test focuses on how well you can identify patterns and find the missing piece of a pattern. Instead of numbers or letters, you will use shapes and matrices.

Cognitive Aptitude Tests are multiple choice, and usually have a time limit.

Excel Test

If you have applied for a position that requires organization and table making, you may be tested on your knowledge of Excel. This is usually done as a work simulation where you need to use various aspects of the program to show your proficiency.

 

Worley’s Assessment Day

Some applicants will be asked to attend an assessment centre. This will last all day, and has several stages. The specific activities you will be participating in will vary based on the position you are trying for.

The first step in the assessment centre is to complete the pre-hire testing.

If you score well on the tests you will stay to participate in group exercises. All candidates will be evaluated during these exercises to see how well they communicate, their ability to work with others, and their leadership potential.

The day will end with interviews. Not everyone will make it to the interview portion of the day. Decisions will be made as group exercises are completed, and presentations (if necessary) are given.

 

How to Prepare for Worley’s Assessments?

One of the best things you can do if you are anticipating a pre-employment aptitude test is to practise. You can find apps that are meant to enhance cognitive function, these can help you practice and improve these skills. You can enhance your verbal reasoning by reading and working with crosswords and word puzzles. Word problems meant for students can be helpful in practising numerical reasoning, and can be found online. Any method you can find to practise will help improve your chances of achieving an outstanding score.
