What Is Wizz Air?

Although it does not have the distinction of being a flag carrier airline, Wizz Air is the largest airline in Hungary. Headquartered in Budapest, Wizz Air offers ultra-low-cost flights throughout cities in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. It serves 150 destinations in 44 countries and is a subsidiary of Wizz Air Holdings in Jersey. Wizz Air also operates several subsidiary airlines, Wizz Air Abu Dubai, and Wizz Air UK, with a combined fleet size of 138.

Wizz Air is currently operating with a workforce of 4,550 employees. It is a fast-paced environment, and they are constantly on the lookout for dynamic new talent to step up and drive the airline further. There are opportunities for pilots, cabin crew, corporate, marketing, and operations workers with jobs in 50 different countries.

What Is Wizz Air’s Recruitment Process?

The hiring process will vary by position, particularly for pilots and cabin crew who need to meet certain physical requirements. Regardless of the job you hope to get, all job-seekers will need to start on the website to see if the position you want is available. Office position applicants can apply online. If you are interested in a position as a pilot or a member of the cabin crew, check in those categories for the open interview invitation dates.  These will be held in several locations and on several different dates to accommodate job-seekers from across the hiring region.

The assessment days for pilots and cabin crew will consist of introductions and group exercises. Cabin crew will undergo physical assessments to make sure they meet all the requirements, and they will also have to role-play job situations such as appropriately handling difficult passengers. There may also be assessment tests. Pilots will undergo flight simulation tests and a round of technical questions. The day will end with interviews, and you will be notified later if you were selected to join the Wizz Air team.

Office and other ground positions will not be asked to attend assessment days, but you may be sent links to online assessments prior to any interviews. If you do well on the assessments, you will be called for a telephone interview. This will be a basic screening to verify your information and clear up questions anyone may have about your background information, or the job itself. If this goes well the next step will be an in-person interview. Depending on the level of position you have applied for, you may undergo several interviews before a decision is made.

Wizz Air’s Assessment Tests

All airline roles are subject to some kind of assessment testing. The tests will either be given during an assessment day, or you may be sent a link after applying so you can take them from your home computer. The tests given for positions with Wizz Air are a blend of cognitive and personality tests. You may only need to take one, or you may complete a series of tests depending on the position you applied for and the level.

  • Verbal Reasoning Verbal reasoning tests consist of a brief passage followed by a few questions regarding what you have just read. This test measures how well you can draw conclusions and interpret what you have read. This test is multiple-choice, and you will be given a time limit, after which the test will automatically shut off.
  • Numerical Reasoning Even those who will not be dealing with finances may be given a numerical reasoning test. You will be given word problems and you will need to figure out which functions to use to correctly solve the problems. The difficulty of this test will vary based on which job you are being tested for. This assessment is also timed and multiple-choice.
  • Inductive Reasoning This test will use patterns to see how fluid your thinking is. You will need to identify what the pattern is in a series of images and determine what the missing image should be. This test is multiple-choice, and you will be timed.
  • Personality Assessments Personality is an important aspect of hiring. Potential employees need to have traits that are compatible with the job, as well as motivations and drivers that are a good fit for the company. This is why personality surveys are given. Depending on the specific test used you will either need to rank descriptive terms from most to least like you or pick the descriptors that best fit you.
  • Situational Judgment Test (SJT) This will test how you respond to situations that you will typically experience on the job. This will show your problem-solving skills and your understanding of your role in the company. You will be given a scenario along with several responses, and you will need to pick the response that you think will be the most effective.
  • Cabin Crew Assessments Cabin crew applicants will need to prove they have the ability to handle stressful and possibly dangerous situations, communicate with passengers, and follow directions given by the pilots in case of an emergency. This is why cabin crew applicants are given tests that focus on personality, judgment, and communication. As an applicant for a cabin crew position, you will undergo personality tests, verbal reasoning assessments, and situational judgment tests.
  • Pilot Assessments In addition to flight simulations, pilots must also be able to quickly problem-solve, communicate with others, and handle stressful and potentially dangerous situations. Some of the tests pilots are often given include verbal reasoning, situational judgment, personality, and abstract reasoning.

How to Prepare for Wizz Air’s Psychometric Tests?

Your performance on the pre-hire assessment can make or break your airline career before it even gets off the ground. Careful preparation will help you breeze right through the tests and keep your career on the right trajectory. The tests are as much about performing under pressure as they are about your proficiency in a subject. Take practice tests and give yourself a time limit so you are used to working under pressure. Sharpen your math skills with word problems you can find online or by using flashcards. Word puzzles are a good way to work on your language skills and practise reading comprehension.

You cannot study for a situational judgment test, but you can give yourself an edge. Learn as much as you can about Wizz Air and the way they do business. This will help you make informed decisions about how they feel things should be handled. Personality tests should be answered honestly, with professional behaviour in mind. This will create an accurate personality profile that will allow Wizz Air to see why you are the perfect fit for the job.
