Aptitude Employment Tests Prep

What Is Primark?

Primark is a fashion and homeware retailer with headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. This rapidly growing company has an international presence in 14 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Czechia, France, Germany, Ireland ( where it goes by the name Penney’s), Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. They currently have over 400 stores and 70,000 employees, with plans to have 530 stores by 2026.

As a large retailer, Primark has openings in everything from high-level professional careers to entry-level positions. There are opportunities in administration, design, finance, merchandising, supply chain, marketing, management, technology, and retail. New graduates and students can apply for the early careers placement program to gain experience regardless of their degree program.

What Is Primark’s Hiring Process?

All careers at Primark start with an online application. Open positions in all fields can be searched for on the Primark careers website. To apply, you will first need to create a profile. This will allow you to save your CV and receive job alerts and updates.

Some applicants, such as those applying for in-store positions, will receive an email with a link to some assessment tests. The email will contain instructions and the time frame in which the tests must be completed.

If your application sparks interest, you will get a phone call from a recruiter. This is a standard telephone screening where they will query your interest in the job if you are still interested, and basic information from your application. Once it is determined you are a worthwhile candidate you will be scheduled for an in-person interview.

The way you are interviewed depends on the job you have applied for. Some interviews may be done one on one, others will be panel style, and some jobs require multiple interviews of different types before a decision is made. All interviews will have questions about your ability to work on a team, your experience, and what you feel you can bring to the job.

An assessment centre is a part of the process for some roles. You will be asked to come in with other candidates, some of whom have applied for the same position. During the assessment centre, you will have group exercises, interviews, and possibly an assessment test.

Primark Pre-Employment Tests

Online psychometric tests are a tool frequently used in hiring. They help identify the strongest candidates and make hiring decisions easier. Due to the different types of jobs at Primark, not all candidates will be asked to take the same group of assessments. The difficulty of the tests and the tests that are given depend on the skills required by the position, and the level of the job.

These are the tests most commonly used by Primark:

  • Hogan Personality AssessmentThis personality assessment is used to show how well you work with others, and what you are like on a daily basis. It helps determine if you show any leadership traits and how well you make decisions.
  • SJTThe Situational Judgment Test is a combination of a work simulation and a personality test. It helps determine your judgment when faced with difficult situations while performing your job. The test is made up of challenges you may face, and you will need to pick the best course of action from the choices you are given.
  • Logical Reasoning Assessment This test shows how well you can apply logic to solve a series of abstract questions. The questions contain a series of changing shapes, and you must be able to figure out the pattern to find the missing piece. This test is timed and will automatically shut off once you have reached the time limit.
  • Numerical Reasoning Assessment The numerical reasoning test is designed to show how well you can work with data sets. You will have questions that relate to charts and graphs, and you will need to use the numbers in these tables to solve the problems. The difficulty will vary depending on the job you are testing for. You will need to be able to use addition, subtraction, and multiplication. You may also need to work with percentages and fractions. This test will be timed, so try not to spend too much time on one problem.
  • Excel Assessment – If the job description requires you to have knowledge of Excel or similar programs, you will likely be given an Excel test. You will need to demonstrate proficiency with basic Excel functions, formatting cells, wrapping text, shading, and how to create charts.

How to Prepare for Primark’s Psychometric Tests?

To be competitive in the job market you need to be well prepared. This includes being equipped for any online assessments you may be required to take. Numerical reasoning tests are common in a wide range of fields and for all experience levels. Practice performing basic mathematical functions using tools like flash cards so you feel comfortable solving problems quickly. You can use puzzle apps to practice for the logical reasoning test. Puzzles that focus on finding a pattern will be the most helpful.

A frequently asked question is how to get a passing score on a personality test. The best way to get a passing score is to be truthful. Trying to answer the way you think they want you to can actually result in contradictory answers, and result in an undesirable profile. You should answer as if you already have the job, answering questions from a professional perspective. Although you should not try to “cheat” the test, learning about Primark and its goals, and being well-versed in the job requirements for the position you want will prove helpful to you in all aspects of the hiring process.
