Manpower’s Psychometric Tests

Before an applicant can move to the next stage of the hiring process, they will have to show that their personality is a good fit and that they have an aptitude for learning, and possess the necessary critical thinking skills to effectively perform the job. There are a variety of tests Manpower requires it is employees to take. Not every position will require every test. The tests most commonly given to prospective employee are:

  • Abstract Reasoning Test This logical test measures your ability to use non-verbal information to determine relationships between shapes and solve patterns. You will need to complete as many of the questions as you can within the time-limit. If you have applied for a job that requires a great deal of problem-solving, then it is likely you will have to take this test.
  • Numerical Reasoning Test This test will demonstrate your ability to work with numbers, and solve problems using numerical information. This multiple-choice test is timed. This test is often given to candidates who do not need to work with numbers on a day to day basis. It is often used as a predictor of success based on the idea that skill in working with numbers indicates developed analytical skills.
  • Verbal Reasoning Test The ability to process verbal information and communicate effectively is an important part of all jobs. The verbal reasoning test will measure your vocabulary, your ability to process written information. There may be word association or drawing conclusions from groups of words.
  • Personality Assessment Personality assessments are given to help identify traits in candidates that they find most desirable. Your test is typically matched against a profile that the company has had made of their ideal personality type to fill the position. You may have to rank statements in order of how well they describe you, or mark them as “agree, or disagree”.

Revelian and Wonderlic are the most common test providers Manpower uses.

Interviews

The interviews start with a telephone screening, to verify your information. They may go over your qualifications and ask a few background questions. This interview is usually brief, lasting around 15 minutes. If you impress during the phone interview, you will be invited for an in-person interview. During this interview, you will be asked behavioural and situational questions. These questions are meant to get an understanding of how you respond to workplace situations, and how well you will fit in with the rest of the team.

Manpower’s Assessment Centre

Applicants for some positions may be required to take part in an assessment centre. The assessment centre is used to see how applicants perform in a professional setting. These may consist of group role-playing exercises, presentations, or case-studies. The assessment centre will end with a final face to face interview.
