What Is the Hiring Process at Ince?

Online Application

Job seekers looking to join Ince can find a list of open positions on the firm’s website or professional pages such as LinkedIn. Once you find a role that interests you, you will submit an online application, including a CV and cover letter.

The application will likely ask about your educational background and work experience. You should also provide accurate contact details, as this is how the recruiting team will contact you throughout the pre-employment process.

The CV you provide should be tailored to the specific role you are applying for. Use the job description to identify what skills you need to highlight and include keywords throughout the document. If possible, try to only list relevant experience and keep this document to a maximum of two pages.

The cover letter you provide should be complimentary to your CV. Be sure to include information that can’t be found on your CV, such as why you want to work for Ince. Be sure to proofread your letter to ensure it is error-free and professional before submitting it.

Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test

The hiring team will review your application materials, and if you pass the initial screening, they will send you a link to complete the Watson Glaser Critical Thinking Test. This exam is a standard assessment in the legal profession as it tests how you approach situations, analyze information, and form evidence-based conclusions. These skills are critical to success in law, so you will want to do as well as possible on this exam.

The critical thinking assessment is a multiple-choice exam; you will have 30 minutes to complete 40 questions. The questions are divided into five sections:

  • Recognizing assumptions: You will read a statement and then be given an assumption. You must determine if the assumption is made in the statement or not.
  • Deduction: You will read a text passage and decide if a given deduction follows the information.
  • Evaluation of arguments: You will read through a given scenario and a series of arguments for and against a particular position. You will have to evaluate the strength of each of the arguments for the given situation.
  • Drawing inferences: You will read through a passage and then several possible inferences. You will then need to use the information to classify each inference as true, possibly true, not possible to say, possibly false, or false.
  • Interpretation: You will read a written passage and decide if a given conclusion follows the information beyond a reasonable doubt.

Video Interview

You will be invited to complete a video interview if you do well on the critical thinking test. This will consist of pre-selected questions that you must record responses to for the hiring team to review. In addition, before starting the interview, you will have a chance to record yourself answering a practice question so you can become familiar with the system.

Once you are in the interview, you will receive questions about your qualifications, experience, and motivation behind applying for a position at Ince. Be sure to have a few solid examples of times you showcased Ince’s values in previous roles, as this will help you stand out from the other applicants. You’ll also want to have your CV close by so you can refer to it.

Ince Assessment Day

If you do well on the video interview, Ince will invite you to participate in an assessment day. This will be a day-long event that will include individual activities and group exercises with other candidates. The hiring team will assess several skills during this event and your personality and behaviour.

Drafting Task

One task you will encounter is the legal drafting task. This activity will assess your written communication skills and ability to quickly absorb and interpret information. You will want to read the information and draft your response clearly and concisely. Be sure to proofread before submitting your work.

Group Pitching Exercise

Collaboration and relationship building is critical to your success at Ince. Therefore, the firm wants to ensure you can work well in a team before considering an offer. In this group pitching exercise, you will work with other candidates to address a problem that the hiring team gives you.

During this exercise, it is essential to be respectful of others and allow them to speak and voice their opinions. While you must be assertive and express your thoughts, you do not want to come off as too pushy and not a team player.

Final Interview

Lastly, you will complete a final in-person interview with a senior firm member. This interview will focus on your qualifications, commercial awareness, and personality. Ince wants to ensure that you can perform the tasks required of the position and that you will fit in well with their company culture.

It is also essential to come up with a few questions to ask the interviewer. This should be a conversation, and you should determine if the firm is right for you and your personal goals.

How to Prepare for the Ince Assessment?

Ince is looking for individuals who embody their core values, work collaboratively with others, and can use their critical thinking skills to add value to their team. The recruitment process at Ince is highly competitive, so you will want to do whatever you can to stand out from the other applicants and show the hiring team that you are the best candidate for the position.

The best way to do that is to receive a high score on the critical thinking assessment. Hiring teams often use pre-employment tests to objectively compare candidates and see who would be better suited for the position. Therefore, the higher your score on the exam, the more likely you are to advance in the hiring process.

Preparation is critical to your success on the exam. Online resources, such as practice tests, will provide you with sample questions to better understand what you will encounter on the exam. In addition, these practice assessments will often have answer solutions so you can see how to best approach certain question types and use those tips for future tests. Lastly, because the test is timed, working through practice exams will help rehearse your timing, allowing you to complete the test more quickly and accurately on the actual exam.

Applicants who take the time to prepare for the critical thinking exam do significantly better than those who do not, increasing their chances of advancing in the hiring process at Ince.
