What Is Hilton’s Hiring Process?

Application

You will find all open positions with Hilton Worldwide posted on their website. You can make a profile that enables you to save any positions that may be of interest to you. You can also sign up for job alerts in case the position you were hoping for becomes available. Jobs for all the Hilton International brands, at all locations, are listed on the website. You will need to fill out an online application and upload a resume and cover letter. As part of the application process, to further narrow the candidate pool, you may be asked to take a pre-employment test.

Hilton’s Online Tests

To help the hiring team be certain they are hiring the best talent. Job applicants will be given a series of psychometric tests. Some of these tests will be given at the time of application, others may be given during an assessment centre. This may depend on the position you are applying for. Hilton uses mainly the online assessments produced by SHL and Cubiks.

  • Verbal Reasoning Test During this test you will be given a brief passage to read. This will be followed by several statements which you will need to answer as true or false based on the text you were given.
  • Numerical Reasoning Test You will need to show an ability to work with numbers and perform basic calculations. There may be questions involving percentages, fractions, and ratios.
  • Logical Reasoning Test These inductive and deductive reasoning tests tests use incomplete sequences to measure your ability to use abstract reasoning. You will be given a series of shapes and will need to complete the pattern.
  • Occupational Personality Questionnaire This will assess your dominant personality traits and help determine how well you will fit into the job you have applied for, and the corporate culture of Hilton Worldwide.

Hilton’s Interviews

The length of the interview process will vary based on the position you are interested in. Your first interview will be an online interview. You will be sent a link and will need to record your responses to the questions. Many of the questions may echo questions you answered when filling out the application. If the video interview meets their standards, you will be contacted to arrange a telephone interview. The telephone interview will consist of more background questions and allow them to follow up on any questions they may have. This interview will be followed up by an in-person interview if you continue to impress. This interview may be conducted at a Hilton location, or during an assessment centre. The in-person interview is behavioural, and questions are best answered using the STAR method.

A few of the questions you can expect during the interview:

  • What drew you to Hilton Worldwide over our competition?
  • How do you feel your education has prepared you for this role?
  • Do you have any experience using social media as a marketing tool?

Assessment Centre

The assessment centre is a chance for the hiring managers to see how you perform in a work-like environment. There will be several group and individual exercises you will be performing during the assessment centre.

  • Role-playing You may be asked to role-play a scenario with either a manager or another participant.
  • Presentation – You may be given a topic in advance and asked to put together a presentation.
  • Team-exercise You will be given a problem involving your position of choice and will be asked to discuss it with the group. You will be observed to see how well everyone participates in the group discussion.

How to Prepare for Hilton’s Assessments?

To get ready for the online tests start by learning as much as you can about Hilton Worldwide and their values and corporate culture. This will help you know what kind of questions to expect on the Occupational Personality Questionnaire. Be honest on the personality assessment but knowing what to expect can help you better select your answers. The reasoning tests can be prepared for by studying the specific skills they are assessing. Brush up on your numerical skills so you feel more confident about taking the test. Comprehensive practice for these tests will improve your chances of getting hired.

The Hilton Worldwide hiring process can seem intimidating. If you prepare and practise for it, you will sail right through, and will soon be accepting an offer for your new position with Hilton Worldwide.
