What Is G4S?

Headquartered in London, England, G4S is, by revenue, the largest multinational security company in the world. Since 2021 it has been part of the Allied Universal family of companies. G4S has a presence in 85 countries, offering security services such as security guards, security systems, risk management and consultation, secure cash delivery, and payment management solutions.

G4S is one of the globe’s largest employers, with over 800,000 employees. It encourages employees to flourish within the company by offering leadership programs and over 1200 courses for continued employee education. In addition to careers in security, G4S offers employment to job seekers in the fields of technology, logistics, general management and facilities management, and business support, which includes human resources, administration, legal, and customer service.

What Is the Hiring Process at G4S?

Open positions with G4S are listed on the global website, as well as your country’s site. Once you find a position that interests you hit the apply button and enter your email address to begin your application. Once your email address is entered, an account is created that allows you to check your progress and save the details of your applications. Before you apply, be sure to thoroughly read all the requirements of the jobs you apply for. If you fail to meet them, your application will be rejected.

After filling out the application, some job seekers will immediately be directed to take a skills assessment test. The type of test you are asked to take depends on your location and the job you applied for.

For those not given an assessment test, you will receive a screening call. This is a brief conversation that gives the recruiting team a chance to learn more about your personality and your employment history. If your screening goes well, you will be invited to interview. Some candidates will also be asked to complete a job simulation or other assessment following their interview.

If you impress during your interview and do well on any assessments you are given, you will be offered a tentative position. The final decision is based on the results of your background check. Since security is its business, G4S runs a thorough 5 part background check on all applicants.

G4S Interviews

Since G4S has various positions, including those that are not directly related to security, there will be some differences in the interview process. Business management roles may have up to 4 rounds of interviews with various managers and executives. Security Guard roles may have only one or two interviews.

The interviews focus strongly on prior experience and use the STAR style of interviewing. Each question leads to a discussion that gives insight into your character and your ability to perform well on the job.

G4S Job Tests

G4S has started utilizing AI testing to eliminate test bias and get a true idea of each job seeker’s ability. G4S has begun working with testing company Vervoe, to provide workplace simulations and abilities testing. Each test is carefully tailored to the position it is used for, so the test experience will vary for each role. Here are a few of the tests that are offered by G4S.

  • Cybersecurity Job Simulation – Job simulations are especially important when hiring for cybersecurity so you can ensure that candidates have the basic abilities needed for the job. Firewall configuration, investigating intrusions, and finding weaknesses within the system are all areas that are tested in the cybersecurity simulation.
  • Pre-Employment Personality Test
  • SJT Test
  • Skills Assessments – The skills assessments are tailored for specific positions and test for certain abilities. The skills assessments do not just score the tests based on technical skills. They also focus on soft skills. Someone in customer service will be tested on active listening, communication, and conflict resolution. The AI features weigh each test and select the candidates it determines to be the highest performers.
  • Aptitude Tests

How to Prepare for G4S’ Assessment Tests?

G4S utilizes a unique testing platform. The best way to prepare yourself for these tests is to be well-versed in the skills your desired position entails. Read the job description and take careful note of the abilities that are emphasized. If you need to be familiar with a certain type of software or have the ability to build a firewall, practice these skills prior to testing so you know you will put your best foot forward. Whether it be typing or writing reports, be ready to demonstrate your abilities in any area that is an important function of the job you want. Be prepared to demonstrate your soft skills and ability to work with people on a team both in the job simulations and in the skills tests. Your soft skills can make up for lack of technical skills since soft skills are more difficult to teach.
