What Is Fidelity’s Recruitment Process?

Application

The Fidelity applications are available online. You can search for jobs without creating a profile on their website. To apply or receive alerts a profile will be necessary. You will need to upload your resume at the time of application. When you fill out the application emphasize your qualifications so it catches the eye of the recruiters.

 

Fidelity’s Assessment Tests

The online psychometric tests help the Fidelity recruiters identify the best talent. You will need to take several online assessments as part of the Fidelity application process. The tests are provided by test developer SHL. The combination of tests you take will vary based on position. You will take one or more of these tests:

  • Numerical Reasoning TestTo confirm that applicants have the necessary level of math ability, you will be given a numerical test. You will be given charts and graphs and will need to interpret the information and use it to perform math functions like addition, and subtraction, you may also need to work with percentages and ratios. This test is multiple choice.
  • Logical Reasoning Test This will measure your cognitive skills and ability to think abstractly. This test uses shapes and patterns and measures your skill at identifying relationships between objects by having you complete sequences.
  • Verbal Reasoning Test To prove you have the necessary vocabulary and communication skills you will be given this multiple-choice test. You will have several brief paragraphs to read, followed by several questions about the information they contained.

 

Interviews

The first interview with Fidelity will be a phone interview. This interview is done to verify that you qualify for the job. You will be asked questions about your background and your qualifications. If this interview goes well you will be contacted about an in-person interview. There may be a few weeks between the phone interview and an in-person interview. The in-person interview will be behaviour-based and focus on your work style, your past job performance and how well you suit the corporate culture. Behavioural interviews are best answered using the STAR method. This method of interviewing allows you to provide details to your answers and help the recruiting team get to know you and your personality better.

You may have to answer questions such as:

  • What skills do you have that make you a good leader?
  • Are you capable of learning from your mistakes?
  • What made you decide to work in finance?

 

Fidelity’s Assessment Centre

You may be asked to attend an assessment centre to further demonstrate your capabilities. During the assessment centre, you and the other candidates will be asked to complete several group and individual exercises.

  • Presentation – You will be given a topic ahead of the assessment centre, and will need to present it in front of several members of the hiring team. They want to see how well you are able to present, and how much research and effort you put into it.
  • Group Exercise The group exercise is a measure of how well the job candidates are able to work together. The hiring managers will be observing to see how well each candidate is able to listen to feedback, think outside the box, and demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Case Study All participants in the assessment centre will be given a case study to analyze. You will need to present your findings and solutions to the hiring team. They will want to see creative outside the box thinking.

 

How to Prepare for Fidelity’s Assessment?

The online reasoning tests are a major part of the Fidelity hiring process. You will need to make sure your reasoning skills are up to par to get the best possible scores on the tests. You can practice for these tests by identifying the areas where your skills are weakest. Practice your skill with basic mathematical functions, and use word problems to work on your understanding of how to identify the problem and solution. Increase your vocabulary by reading and working on crossword puzzles.

The psychometric tests have no right or wrong answers. Be honest in your answers, but when you take them, approach them from a professional frame of mind, our answers in our home lives may differ from our approach at work.

Do not allow the idea of the online assessment tests to overwhelm you. Practice will keep your skills sharp, and give you more confidence when you take the tests. If you stay calm and work to the best of your abilities you will have no problem making it all the way through the hiring process.
