What Is Centrica’s Hiring Process?

Online Application

To start the hiring process at Centrica, you will first need to apply for the job online. This online application doesn’t take too long and will consist of simple pre-employment questions. You will also need to upload your CV covering your employment history, education background, and relevant skills and certifications.

Centrica’s Psychometric Tests

After submitting the online application, you will take a few psychometric tests. You will likely take these exams regardless of the role you applied for as they assess basic skills and reasoning. It is important to know that these tests are timed, so you should prepare for them before sitting down to take the tests. The tests you will likely take include:

  • Numerical Reasoning Test: The numerical reasoning test will assess your ability to process and analyze numerical information. You will see a series of questions with data presented in a graph, table, or figure and will need to answer multiple-choice questions about the data.
  • Verbal Reasoning Test: The verbal reasoning test will examine your ability to understand written language. You will receive a series of text passages and need to answer questions based on your understanding of what you read.
  • Personality Test: The Centrica personality test is similar to the Situational Judgement Test (SJT). You will receive various hypothetical situations based on the role you are applying for and will need to respond to each case. This test will determine if your values align with the company’s and assess how suitable you are for the role.

Telephone Interview

After completing your initial assessments, you will graduate to the interview portion of the hiring process. The initial interview will likely be a phone interview and ask questions based on your CV. This interview will not be overly technical and is designed to learn more about you and your background and decide if you are a good fit for the role and the company.

Centrica’s Assessment Day

The last stage of the Centrica recruitment process is assessment day. The assessment day will involve a series of group and individual tasks and interviews. Some assessments you will likely encounter are:

  • Written Exercise: The written exercise will involve analyzing information and formulating a written response to the situation. This exercise will assess your written communication skills, language skills, and ability to be direct and concise.
  • Group Exercise: The group exercise will test your social skills and see how well you work in a team. You and a few other candidates may be given a workplace problem to work through together.
  • Presentation / Case Study: You will receive a case study to analyze and present during the assessment day. Since you will not have much time to prepare, it is essential to learn as much as you can about the business before the assessment day.
  • Role Play: The last part of the assessment day is role play. Here you will take part in a role-playing exercise such as a simulated meeting to assess your behaviour and how you interact with others in this situation.
