What Is the Hiring Process at ASML?

Online Application

ASML posts open positions on its website, so you can apply online to show interest in a role. Be sure to update your CV to tailor it to the specific position you are applying for. The details under each job listed should highlight the experience they are looking for. You should also prepare to provide your educational history and any other relevant skills or experience.

Interview

After the initial application screening, qualified candidates will be invited to interview with a member of human resources. This interview will focus on your qualifications for the position and ask for relevant experience examples. It is good to prepare for this conversation by studying your CV and preparing examples that you can use to illustrate your experience.

Candidates who do well in the initial interview will progress to the assessment portion of the hiring process. ASML uses Cubiks as their test provider, covering several assessments, including verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning, skills, and personality.

  • Verbal Reasoning Aptitude Test One aptitude test you will take is the verbal reasoning exam. This exam will offer a variety of question types to assess your understanding of English skills and your ability to communicate with others. These questions include:
    • Comprehension: The comprehension questions will examine your ability to read written text and apply that information to answer questions. You will receive a passage followed by questions about the content and potential conclusions from the text.
    • Vocabulary: The vocabulary portion of the exam will test your understanding of words and how they are used by asking you to spell words and complete sentences.
    • Grammar: The grammar exams will test your English grammar by asking you to identify and fix sentence errors.
    • Critical Reasoning: Critical reasoning questions measure your ability to analyse written information and form conclusions.
  • Numerical Reasoning Aptitude TestThe numerical reasoning test is an aptitude exam assessing your ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and analyze data. You will solve word problems and equations using basic operations, ratios, and percentages and analyse graphs, tables, and charts to answer questions.
  • Microsoft Office Tests – In addition to common aptitude tests, you may also need to complete a Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills test. Since Microsoft Office products are commonly used in the workplace, ASML wants to ensure that all employees understand how to use the programs. Both exams will ask you about the steps required to complete common tasks.
  • Personality TestsASML will also ask their candidates to take a personality test. The questions on this psychometric test will assess your values, motivations, strengths, and weaknesses, allowing the hiring team to see how well you would fit in with the company culture and the current team.
Each question on the exam will consist of a statement, and you must determine how much you agree or disagree with each statement or how much it describes you and your working style. While it may feel like there are no right or wrong answers to this assessment, the hiring team at ASML is looking for people with specific personalities to fill each role. Therefore, preparing for the exam by researching the company and the role responsibilities is a must.
  • SJT Test The situational judgement test (SJT) is also a helpful resource for the hiring team to learn more about you and your working style. The SJT will present several simulated workplace scenarios and response options from which you must choose. You must select the most efficient response that best aligns with the company values and what they seek for this role.

ASML’s Assessment Center

The last stage of the ASML pre-employment process is the assessment centre. This will be an in-person event you will attend with other candidates. There are several types of exercises that you will complete during the assessment Center stage:

  • Group Activity: The hiring team will divide the applicants into smaller groups, and you must work together to accomplish a task. For example, you may receive a case study to read and determine the best course of action based on the information. This task aims to assess your leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
  • Presentation: You will also complete an individual task, such as a presentation for the hiring team. This will require you to research a topic, prepare a report or slide deck, and present your findings or position to the hiring team. This task aims to test your ability to work under pressure, communication skills, and initiative.
  • Interview: You will also complete at least one more interview during the event. This will be with a hiring team member and will be competency- and behavior-based. They will look for concrete examples of how you previously demonstrated a good work ethic, applicable skills and knowledge for the role, and the company’s values.

How to Prepare for the ASML Assessment?

Job seekers must do well during the assessment stage of the ASML recruitment process because this acts as a screening stage, and unsuccessful candidates will be removed from the process. To ensure that you receive high scores on these exams, you will want to dedicate time to studying and preparing for them before the hiring process.

Online resources such as sample tests are a great way to familiarise yourself with the test content and format. Free online practice tests will present several example questions you can work through and provide answer solutions to give you tips for approaching each question.
