The Wonderlic Scholastic test is a simple screening test administered to prospective students during the application process. Like the pre-employment Wonderlic Personnel Test, formerly Cognitive Ability Test, the SLE test is a basic aptitude assessment designed to evaluate fundamental mathematical skills, basic verbal comprehension, and general problem-solving abilities.

What Is the Wonderlic SLE Exam?
The Wonderlic Scholastic Exam was originally created by Edwin Wonderlic when he was a student in the psychology department at Northwestern University. He wanted to create an equivalent of the traditional I.Q. test to assess aspiring students applying to college and new graduates entering the workforce. The SLE entrance exam is the version of the test given to prospective students.
According to most modern day psychologists, intelligence level is extremely important in predicting someone’s level of future success. While experience, personality, determination, and work ethic all have an enormous impact, you can’t ignore the importance of raw intelligence, they claim. Smarter people learn and master new skills more quickly, and they’re far more likely to excel in their position.
Whether the Wonderlic can accurately measure intelligence or not is another question; nonetheless, that was the original intention in creating the test.
The standard Wonderlic SLE assessment is an online exam and has 50 multiple choice questions with a time-limit of 12 minutes. On the test, you’ll be asked to complete analogies, answer questions about the months of the year, calculate averages, manipulate 3-D figures, and find patterns.
There is also a second version of the exam that’s slightly shorter. The quicktest contains only 30 questions and lasts a total of 8 minutes. However, many people who are asked to take the shorter version of the test are later asked to take the longer version as well.
How to Prepare for the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Examination?
The Wonderlic is by no means straightforward. While the questions on the exam are not necessarily complex, because you’re given so little time to take the test, you’ll have to be extremely efficient. Less than 5% of all test-takers actually finish the test at all, and most applicants can only answer about half of the questions correctly before time runs out.
While the test is particularly difficult, with a good SLE exam study guide and some dedicated practice, you’ll be able to ace the online exam with no difficulty. Who Uses the Wonderlic SLE Exam?
Many institutions, including a number of nursing and police force schools, choose to administer the Wonderlic in the hopes of maximising student retention rate, minimise the number of students who default on their loans, and increase graduation rates. The Wonderlic SLE is used in many colleges and career-oriented academies that typically don’t use a standardised test like the SAT’s or ACT’s to evaluate candidates.
How Is the Wonderlic SLE Examination Scored?
The standard Wonderlic exam is scored out of 50 points. Essentially, you receive 1 point for every correct answer, and no points are deducted for incorrect answers. The quicktest is scored slightly differently. On the 30-question exam, each correct answer is worth 1.66 points making for a total of 50 points.
Because the test is so difficult, scores tend to be far lower than what you’d expect them to be. For instance, the average score hovers right around 20, and approximately 3/4 of all candidates receive a 27 or lower.
That being said, a good score is totally subjective. What might be a failing score for your institution could be a passing score for another. You need to look up the score range generally accepted by your institution or program and then judge based on those numbers.
To give you a general idea, a score of 10 is considered literate. Janitors, warehousemen, welders, and security guards usually receive scores between 14 and 18, and clerical workers, receptionists, and cashiers score around a 21. Blue collar workers like technicians, electricians, and bank tellers plus nurses and salespeople receive scores in the low to mid-twenties. Teachers, copywriters, and executives typically score in the upper twenties, and chemists, engineers, and programmers score around 30.
