What Is ARUP?
Arup is a multinational professional consultancy firm that was established in 1946. They provide the delivery of a multitude of business services and are highly dedicated to sustainable development. They provide consultants in all areas such as design, engineering, architecture, planning, and advisory services. The firm is built up of 16,000 workers across 145 countries and over 120 disciplines. They aim to work closely with local communities on projects big or small. Projects include ones such as designing the world’s longest water crossing.

What Is ARUP’s Hiring Process?
ARUP has several opportunities in multiple countries across various disciplines. They offer graduate roles, internships, and apprenticeships. The hiring process consists of an online application, phone interview, psychometric tests, an assessment day including some written and verbal tests, and a final interview.
Application
The application form is completed online and covers aspects such as experience, transferable skills as well as your reasons for applying for the role.
The application will focus on where the candidate has gained their skills from and how they are transferable to the role they are applying for. Responses should be clear, well written, and use examples of experiences you have had. You should show why you would be an asset to the team, show off your experience, strengths, leadership skills and technical knowledge.
Depending on what role you are applying for you may be asked a few additional questions.
If you are successful at this point of the recruitment process and your application is taken forward you will likely be invited to a phone interview and an assessment day which consists of tasks such as group work and unseen written exercises.
The Interview
Job seekers will be expected to have an interview that will be held over the phone and will likely cover areas that you have discussed in your application and CV. It is an opportunity to develop aspects of your application and show more interest in the role. Think about how your CV is written and think of examples to show your skills such as teamwork, leadership, resilience, and independent working. Prepare some answers that showcase your specific and unique skill set.

ARUP’s Psychometric Tests
ARUP uses Revelian test maker for their assessment tests. They use these tests to assess the candidate’s work ethic, values, and ability to work as part of their team.
Situational Judgment Questionnaire (SJT) – decision making, and judgement. It will help the future employer see how you would work in their office environment. In the test you will be presented with office conflicts and complex workplace scenarios and asked to decide the best way to resolve it. These scenarios can come in single response or in a multi choice response format.
Personality Test – The personality test has been created to understand more about how you behave or conduct yourself in a work environment. It will look at your ability to be flexible and work as part of a team among other personality traits. The questions asked have no set correct response but certain responses can influence if you get the position or not.
ARUP’s Assessment Centre
If you are successful on the phone interview you will be invited for an assessment centre. This may look slightly different depending on the role you have applied for.
Group Exercise: This task will be demonstrating how you work as part of a team and test your problem-solving skills. It will be observed by current workers. This exercise will show how you work with others under pressure to complete a task. It is important to show confidence in this task but not be domineering. Take other’s suggestions and ideas into consideration and do not be afraid to argue your point in a professional manner.
Written Exercise: This exercise will be an unseen case study that will be provided to you on the day.
Role Play: This will be another task where you must work with others. You will be put in pairs and given the task of analysing some information, you will then both have to prepare your final response. In the second part of this task, you will be expected to show your negotiation skills, teamwork, professionalism, and analytical thinking. Your interviewer will become your client and you and your partner will represent ARUP.
The Final Interview: This final interview will be held with a senior member of ARUP. The questions that could be expected may be both technical and competency based. By this point in the interview process, you should have a wider understanding of ARUP company as a whole and not just the role you are applying for. You need to consider ARUP’s competitors, the structure and environment of the company, as well as how your role would fit into all of that.

How to Prepare for ARUP Assessment?
Candidates should practice sample questions for SJT (situational judgement tests) and personality tests specifically to be ready for the real thing. Focus on practicing as much as you can, as that is your best chance to score high, making you a more competitive candidate for the job.
