Amazon Control Tech Assessment
The Amazon Control Technician Assessment measures your skills in the areas that you need to be proficient in. The exam is related entirely to your technical knowledge and aptitude. It is divided into 8 sections, and each is multiple-choice. Many of the questions will consist of schematics and diagrams. There is a strong emphasis on electrical systems and circuits, and you will need to have some coding and programming knowledge. The 8 areas you will be tested on are:
Electrical Theory – This section will question your knowledge of electrical concepts, parallel circuits, and basic control circuits. You should be knowledgeable in the fundamentals of electricity, such as Watts Law and conventional versus electron current, and be able to read a circuit diagram.
Schematics, Electrical Print, and Logic – You will be given questions based on different types of schematics, and you will need to be able to properly interpret the diagrams to answer the questions.
Process Control and Networking – This will focus on different types of code and networking language. You will need to have a basic understanding of how the network transmits data.
Mechanical Elements – You will be assessed on your knowledge of the mechanical components of circuits, like transducers and pneumatic circuits. You should also understand structural components and the various mechanisms that control movement.
Computers, PLCs, DCS- In this section, you will answer questions about hardware programming concepts.
Power Distribution- This section focuses on transformers, relays, fuses, and other forms of power distribution. Knowing the basics of power distribution and circuit arrangements like radial selective, primary selective, secondary selective, and network circuit arrangements is also an important part of scoring well in this section
Motors – This assesses your knowledge of the different types of electric motors and how they work, the advantages and disadvantages of each, and why you might choose one versus another.
Automation and Robotics – This area will question your basic knowledge of automation, as well as the safety protocols and control systems involved.
The test is a total of 90 minutes and is in a multiple-choice format. If you have ever taken a Ramsay Assessment the test style may seem familiar, since this test was developed by the Ramsay Corporation. All the questions on it have been developed specifically for Amazon.
The assessment is administered online, and you will be sent a link after your application is sent, provided you meet the minimum qualifications. Even though you will be taking the test from your home computer, the test will be proctored. You will need to have your camera on, and your screen will be visible, as well as your background.
How to Prepare for the Amazon Control Tech Assessment?
Amazon has very strict standards for its operations employees. The assessment test will be your first chance to prove to them that you can meet those standards. If you do not score well on the test, you will not be asked to go forward in the hiring process. Make sure your knowledge is up to date, and your understanding of mechanical principles and theory is fresh in your mind.
Refresh your memory on electrical theory and mechanics. Go online and study schematics, so you know that you are comfortable reading block diagrams, mechanical prints, and machine schematics. There is information about some of the Amazon automation processes online. Although they do not go into great detail, you can learn about some of the Amazon machinery that you would be working on. Seeing these machines in action may help you better prepare to answer questions regarding troubleshooting and electronics.
Since this test will be remotely proctored, make sure you keep your work area free of clutter. Take the test when you know you will have no interruptions or distractions. You need to be able to give all your focus to the exam and show your skills to their best advantage.
